Empowering Democracy: Anthro-Tech’s Design Journey with VoteWA.gov
Categories
We’re thrilled to share a significant milestone in our commitment to human-centered design and digital accessibility. We proudly collaborated with the Washington Secretary of State to unveil an enhanced customer experience for residents using VoteWA.gov.
VoteWA.gov: A Pillar of Democracy
Originally launched in 2019, VoteWA.gov manages voter data for over 4.8 million registered voters. As the official election portal, it provides electoral information, including voter registration, election details, candidate info, polling place locators, and guidance on absentee and early voting.
Behind the Revamp: A Partnership for Progress
Recognizing the significance of usability and accessibility, 1,305 voters contributed feedback and participated in testing both the original portal and its redesigns. These valuable insights guided our enhancements, resulting in a more streamlined experience. As a result, failure rates for top tasks, such as tracking a ballot, decreased by 19%.
Designing for All: Key Attributes of the Upgrade
Three key attributes stand out:
- Accessibility at the Forefront: The upgraded portal now works seamlessly with screen readers and assistive tools, promoting inclusivity.
- Mobile-Friendly Interface: Crafted for today's on-the-go lifestyle, our responsive interface ensures convenience for customers using mobile devices.
- Streamlined Communication: Enhanced notifications keep voters informed and ready to take action.
Secretary Steve Hobbs' Endorsement: A Testament to Success
Secretary of State, Steve Hobbs expressed his satisfaction, highlighting, “VoteWA’s new intuitive design reflects our commitment to providing excellent service to Washingtonians both in person and online.” It is this commitment that fueled our collaboration, ensuring the website becomes a reliable resource for residents across the state.
